The Law of Attraction, described here as one of the laws of the unconscious mind, is presented as a means of enabling human beings to access their own inherent capacities to independently bring about whatever they desire and intend. Such a conception may pose a serious threat to the intellectual foundations of human thought, particularly when human powers are regarded as self-sufficient and independent of any external assistance-namely, the power of the Creator. Taken to its logical conclusion, this claim may elevate the human being, a created and inherently dependent being, to a position of lordship, attributing to him the independent power to govern and alter the universe in opposition to its true Creator. Advocates of the Law of Attraction have sought to portray human beings as inherently capable of changing everything in their lives and bringing anything into existence through mere intention and purpose, or of attracting whatever they desire. On this view, the human being functions like a magnet, drawing toward himself whatever corresponds to his requests: "like attracts like"-good attracts good, and evil attracts evil. This study examines the Law of Attraction descriptively and analytically and argues that seeking to realize everything one desires through independent self-sufficient power is incompatible with the principles of monotheism and sound reason. Human beings do not possess an autonomous power to bring such things into existence independently. If, however, their realization is understood as occurring with divine permission and in a subordinate relation to the Creator's power, then such an account is possible and cannot be rejected; rather, it is fully consistent with the teachings of true religion and the principle of monotheism.
